There are actual wire mesh pieces made to protect the glass of the headlights.

I dont see your hoop having much effect on a stone being thrown at it by another vehicle's tire.

I've had those mesh gaurds on my First XJ, I can tell you they do nothing to protect the light , I have had them shatter while getting hit by rocks with the covers on still .

I have no covers and have never had an issue at all.

But if your looking for protection, these will still do more against a smaller stone than your bar. I don't see how you can argue that.

Where I wheel we have huge rocks some spots on the trail you will be off camber with a rock inches away from the side of your Jeep, I have seen way too many people misjudge an tear off their header panel and smash thier headlights, Thus the reason I have the tube work on my XJ that comes to the corner of bumper Just past the fenders to Gaurd my headlights in cause I misjudge my line
