I have a 99xj and had a 98 tj. The tj wind noise wasn't to bad. Tj: 4" lift
32 11.5 15 all Terrains
5spd
4.0 (mpg)20city/25hwy
Turned sharper on trails
Crape ride from shorter wheelbase
Flexed well
Not as stable on hill climbs
Top down was fun
xj: 4" lift
31 10.5 16
4sd auto
4.0 (mpg)17city/22hwy
Rides great
Better rear axle
Turns almost as good as wrongler
Flexes almost as good
Stable on hill climbs and side hilling
Hauls more stuff
More comfortable
I would pick xj over wrangler anyday.

My wrangler's trans went out with 86,000 miles, and it was $10,000 for the jeep. My xj was $1800 with about $1400 in lift tires and maintenance(cps,iac,tps,etc..) a paid off rig is easier to mod, use what would be your car payment and have a built xj.

if your going to get one expect a little more wind noise little less MPG little more flex but less stablity. expect to pay more for parts that are the same as the other jeep.
turns out for some reason jsut because a jeep is a wrangler things have to cost more. exspect to have to change the rear end.

I have owned 2 YJs 1 TJ and 2 XJs. Out of all that, my current XJ has been the best so far, followed close by my 95 YJ. In the end YOU have to enjoy the Jeep you want. So many of us here are bias to on kind of Jeep, you can sift through all the answers and every one will be differnt for differnt reasons. The XJ i own right now is the loudest out of all my Jeeps i have had, plus it has the most electrical problems. How ever the wind noise from my 89 YJ sucked with a soft top. My 93 XJ lasted 5 months before some A-hole folded it in half at a stop light. And my TJ, well it said "Jeep" on it. I hated it so much, but that is me. Good luck

I really dont know, something about it didnt ride right for me. Maybe it is the way the rear moves around over bumps. But honestly, i just didn't any thing about it.
