Default Half a cover on the trans?

Working on the new jeep today and discovered that the trans is missing like 1/4-1/2 of the cover . why is this and will i have to find a new cover? Here's a couple of pics. one of them is from the top near the exhaust manifold and the other is from underneath

Anyone? The PO never took the jeep off road but I don't know if I should swap in a new trans because it could have gotten some crap in it
