why the hell does everyone in my area ask so much for their POS??
I cant find a good deal on a 5 speed project for the life of me
then I go to look at them and theyre like "oh it'll only be like 50 bucks to make it pass smog. its sold 'as is' the back fees are on you." or "yeah the interior and paint is bad. and the windshield is cracked and it needs a radiator. and it has an overheating problem and needs new tires. but I just gave it a tune up so its worth $2500, right?"
thats not word for word, but I mean come on.
here's some real winners

As soon as you do find and buy something close to what you want and have no money left, a dozen XJs that are exactly what you want will pop up on CL.

I think I'm just gonna just have to wait till summer
when someone decides they dont need their 4x4 anymore
or someone catches a car accident and cant afford to fix it. if it ever starts raining

yeah what most those people know but don't care is that in CA the seller is responsible for smog. no excuses. when i bought my XJ back in early december i bought it knowing it needed smog and allot of work, when i took it in to DMV to get the registration done the chick behind the counter was going to VOID my transaction with the seller because i couldn't provide the smog cert from the seller. after about 30 mins of back and forth i finally convinced her i knew what was up and i was going to do it myself, hence why i got the jeep so cheap. and she let it slide. ( i think it was because it was a friday and @ 5:10 pm and she wanted to go home)
in Kalifornia, even if its on the bill of sale; "as is" or "buyer responsible for smog" is not valid and a judge (or what i found out) DMV can negate your transaction. the buyer HAS to smog the vehicle. if it goes to civil court there "contract" with you will be voided and they will be forced to ether buy it back or repair it till it passes smog.

Ive bought all three of my cars knowing they dont pass smog
and never had a problem. lady behind the counter always just says take care of it and mail in a copy to us
but everyone knows thats the whole reason for selling on CL. people want to get rid of their pile and guys like me can buy and fix it for cheap.
but wow I hope I dont ever have issues with it in the future thanks for the heads up
