I agree, the best GoPro videos incorporate a lot of 3rd person footage. As for the WiFi recording, it's a great idea, but uses lots of battery. Often the convenience of constantly seeing your footage is overridden by the inconvenience of having to swap batteries or having down time for charging.
I tried playing with a few mounting areas, some which were better than others. Here is one mount I made:



I think it gives a pretty good angle; however, the downside is the license plate (which could potentially be removed for off-road), or the fact that you are now wider than a Hummer. Here is the view from the GoPro:

I think it may be more useful on the front of the XJ rather than the rear; nonetheless, it was still a good experiment

That's not that bad really. I could see it being a pain on a tight trail, but otherwise it's a good location, especially for something like land rush style driving.
