Default a good deal, or over priced?

i saw this ad for a 1997 cherokee sport 4x4, has the 4.0L with 84k miles, power windows/locks/mirrors, realy clean, has a 3 inch lift kit w/ 31s and aftermarket wheels. winch bumper (no winch), running boards, looks really nice and clean. it's a dealer the price is $6850

i looked up the KBB value and it came out to $5250; but that doesnt factor in the lift kit.

it looks real sweet, and i'm very interested, but is that price too much?

and, can i post an outside link? not sure if i'm allowed on here.

post the link. Price is a little high. Have you asked them to budge at all on the price? I would try to talk it down if you are paying cash or bringing in your own financing. If you are asking them to finance or find financing for you, you may not get them to move much on the price.

thats very high in price. yes money has been spent on aftermarket goodies but not enough to justify that price. i would pass on it

i haven' checked it out yet, but when i do i'll try to come down. i cant pay with cash, so i need to finance, but the thing is if i can't get it financed somewhere else, cause its like a min. of 7 years old that companys give you loans for.

its to much $$ but hey its totally up to you with what you want to spend. also if you are going to finance it you have to figure in the interest rate. in the end you will be paying more then what the sticker price is and that totaled with the price of vehicle will be WAY more then whats its worth.

x². price is too high & financing will definitely add up in the end w/ interest. your best bet is to offer them u're cash offer out the door (including fees & reg). and if they don't budge, just keep looking/shopping around. good luck

Another thing to note is the tread on the tires looks a little low, and might need to be replaced soon. At least thats what it looks like in the pics.

A lift is not really going to increase the value of a Jeep. It deters potential buyers, which can actually lower the value.

I know people with lifts are going disagree with this, but that's the way it is. This is a niche-specific vehicle.

I know a vehicle's value all depends on location, demand, etc. But a dealer should not expect to get any more than the fair market value price of a stock Jeep, even though it's lifted..

That jeep is just a baby... Only 86K on the clock. Anyway yeah it is still too expensive.

GreenClassic is right. Any mods to a Jeep do not ad value for a dealer trying to sell it. Private seller is a different story, but even then, don't ever expect to get any where near what you put into it back.

Common practice with used car dealerships is a "fair" mark up of up to $1500 over market value. If KBB values it at $5250, the highest a dealer should go is $6750. They're pretty close to being in that "fair" mark-up zone. Personally, I think it's too much. You could get a stock Jeep with similar mileage for a lot less from a private seller and then add what you want to it. Guys on here fab stuff up all the time and they may be willing to make a bumper for you. You can get a 3" lift with everything and 31's for under $1200 (got my 3" from Rusty's - $520 after shipping - and my BFG A/T's from Sam's Club - $600 with lifetime warranties). You could easily go this route and spend less and end up with more.
