Maybe this has been posted before, but id like to get some fresh opinions for myself; what is everyone's thoughts on Jeeps best years, their "Golden Age"? When they put out great products and understood the customer and the history of the brand, at their best in all aspects...I personally see about late 80s/early 90s to 1999 to be Jeeps prime. The innovations from AMC and the takeover from Chrysler, with Bob Lutz in charge was in my opinion amazing progress for jeep with the ZJ, TJ, the mostly untouched (because they were smart) but well redesigned XJ. No serious recalls, good quality control, and just the way the brand was portrayed to the consumer as a whole in the 90s. Anyways once Mercedes took over, with the KJ, (literally) and WJ (half a Mercedes) and just the awful direction they took jeep towards deeper and deeper each year, well they obviously killed the brand as we saw. Jeep will never be the same and I see that period as kind of their climax. Any other opinions?

When amc owned them was the best made jeeps,The fsj was great in their day.The cj5 and cj7 they got the wrangler almost prefect.

1999 xj was a great jeep. Better axles than the base wranglers up to that point

2006 LJ was best year for the TJ wrangler, basically similar to the cj8 but modern

CJ 8 best of the cj s, just a great wheelbase and storage capacity

Flat fenders jeeps I would say, was the best for there time though.
