Just two off the top of my head: in the early models you had those weak can joints in the drive shafts (that's probably not what they're called). Then there was the vacuum activated 4X4. Then in the 00-01 models you run into the low pinion issue. There is more, just can't remember it all right now. There was something with the transfer case . Nothing that couldn't be swapped out, mind you; just less you'll have to do.

Performance wise on the street? There's a few things to address to give you more power: exhaust, intake, fuel delivery - all of which can be upgraded on these Cherokees. I'm all for the mall crawl building. Mine is a DD and is on road 98% of the time. Unfortunately...

My advice would to be do alot of searching and reading. Its not a honda so no, you dont want a CF hood. haha And a snorkel and an exhaust are two different things. The snorkel essentially becomes your intake, not an exhaust. ( I like thrush welded mufflers)
It really depends where you wanna go with it... And if you like the "older" body style imo 95-96 is the way to go. If you like the "newer" body style then 98-99 are probably your best bet. I have a 00 currently. But ive had a 95/96/97 in the past.

I wasn't a fan of my 96/97...its gotta be a tie between the 95 and 00. But the 00 takes the lead slightly bc of the newer looks better interior etc. But the 95 was a tank. I beat the hell out of that thing DD'd it and it always came back for more! Lol
