Looking for a bigger gas tank that will fit in the same area. Anyone seen or had one made? Are there any junk yard swaps

 

There were options for 12 gal and 20 gal tanks, I think. I've only ever had the 20 gal tank.

 

How many gallons does the stock tank hold 12?

 

I believe it actually holds 22gal irrc. can't imagine why you'd need more than that

 

I'm getting 200 miles to the tank.

 

so your answer is get a bigger tank. have you determined what is causing your bad mileage? assuming you don't use the last 2gal of reserve, you're getting about 10 mpg. that's not normal unless you're running over sized tires with stock gears

get gears or put your stock tires back on. suck it up, your fuel economy will probably never be better than 15mpg. you're gonna see the gas station a lot

4.56 gears if you have an auto transmission. that will give you the best "economy" and power range

 

Thx for the info . I will go out and get some more gears today. I guess that's why most people carry two gas tanks on their truck lol.

 

Some XJs had a 13 gal tank.
could that be what you have?
