There is a piece of plastic on the stock rear bumper to cover the gap and to stop water from getting in... It is held on with three plastic rivets... underneath the plastic are production dates for the piece.... missing years 83,84,85 and 1995... stopping production at the end of 1999 I assume....
the cool thing is..... it appears to me that all the dates are checked off by a human!!! All of the dots are in different locations.. different depths... some have multiples... quadruples even! Imagine doing that millions of times... lol

I remember when my factory bumper had that and being bummed when I went to factory swing out bumper that didn't have this cover. I ended up loving it for easier cleaning after some mud. Very neat though

 

The date stamp is stamped into the molding die. and the date is punched into the die then the part is injection molded and the date stamp is in the finished part. the date is punched by a person but on the die itself they may make several thousand parts in a given month. I use to work at a factory here in my town Evart Products , Ventra been called many things over the years depending on owner at the time but always made parts for Chrysler, Jeep, even Eagle back in the day.
