So, your state requires that you have a license plate on the front. You don't run it because you think it looks bad and then complain when you get pulled over? Really?
Just mount the thing on there like it's supposed to be in the OEM bracket or fold it to match the contour of the bumper and put sheet metal screws in it. Done. It can't look worse than the hacked up OEM bumper.
If you want it to look right, buy a winch bumper, winch and a license plate bracket that snaps into the winch fairlead. Problem solve.
Why do you have a drag slick on your roof?
You can keep your five.

So, your state requires that you have a license plate on the front. yes You don't run it because you think it looks bad correct and then complain when you get pulled over Not complaining whatsoever... just stating the backstory? Really?
Just mount the thing on there like it's supposed to be in the OEM bracket those break too easily or fold it to match the contour of the bumper not legal according to South Dakota law and put sheet metal screws in it. I don't think it would look right, that's just my opinion Done. It can't look worse than the hacked up OEM bumper I originally built my XJ for dirt drags, lighter is better.... Its fits the look that I am going for.
If you want it to look right, buy a winch bumper[, winch and a license plate bracket that snaps into the winch fairlead. I don't really want to put a winch on the front, It does not fit my build, and I would rather keep a lighter front bumper Problem solved.
Why do you have a drag slick on your roof? because it is a full sized spare that will get me home in a pinch

I am a hot-rod builder at heart, this XJ is my DD and since I have moved from ohio to SD, this has been what I have had here to work on... Obviously everybody's opinions on how an XJ should look and be built are different, and that is the beauty of the custom automotive culture.
and for the hi-five..... I'd buy you a beer if you ever rolled into town.... why? Just because I can, and I am that type of guy.... So if you are ever in brookings SD, hit me up.
We are all in this together guys.... no sense getting upset over how I have put together my Jeep.
I am probably going to end up building a light-weight pre-runner style tube bumper/deer strainer around the plate.... unless you folks can come up with something that I have been to blind to see in my fiddling around....
If you can't bend the plate. And if you have a welder handy you can cut your front bumper a bit in one section to make it flat ( like the plate pockets they build on lowrider tail gates ) . And then mount it there.
Being a hot rod guy i assume you can fabricate it easily, and make it look sharp.

dashboard is not legal according to the trooper... the law is murky on whether the dash is considered the "front" of the vehicle... either way if he "thinks" its illegal, then he will pull me over for it....
I want to make the cops think outside the box for a reason to pull me over....

Its funny Front plates are required in my state so are flares that cover the tires and mudflaps.
I dont run front plates, or flares, but I have quick disco mudflaps and dont get bothered. It's probably cause I don't have tinted tails or angry eyes and my XJ has doors on it
Oh Prerunner bumpers weigh more then a stock bumper so that may not be a good option for you since it goes against your lighter is better motto. Also Smaller tires are lighter !
