Default Found Another cherokee to buy!!!

I found a 97 Cherokee Country edition with the selec-trac 242 t-case. Its pretty clean and for the right price. Thinking about buying it, but wanted some opinions about the 242 case? I've always had the 231 case. I won't be doing any extreme wheeling with it. Just casual trails hear and there. It will be mostly a DD. If I get it,...it will be lifted 6.5" and run either 33's or 35's and of course a sye will be installed. What are your thoughts on a 242 selec-trac? and also on a hack-n-tap for a sye?

From what I hear 242 selectrac is about as good as 231 command trac, but I've never had one. I've thought about swapping my 231 out for a 242 to add full time to my 4x4 options.

Yummy a white xj, love white xj's. I believe the only sye available for the 242 is a hack n tap but I may be wrong. Looks nice and has the map.pockets in the doors which is nice to have.

Im hoping it doesn't sell until I get by there on Saturday to look at it. Unfortunately I can't get there sooner than Saturday because I work, and by time im off work the dealership its at would be closed.
Man every time I look at the pictures I want it more and more. Man I hope it doesn't sell and its still there this Saturday. I always loved the White Cherokee's also,.. it will look good once im done with it if I do end up getting it.

dont care for a 242. hack n tap is the only SYE and if you screw up tapping the hole or drilling the hole and it not being straight you will have vibes.

231 you can get a REAL sye and the option of 2low and 4:1 unlike the 242. many buddies have ditched the 242 and gone to a 231

Meancherokee thanks for your info, but this will not be extremely wheeled so I do believe I will be fine with the 242. As far as the hack-n-tap I do believe I can installed that just fine. Just wanted to know if a hack-n-tap performance is just as good as a true sye kit? When installed correctly?

As long as it's not seeing anything extreme you'll be fine with the 242. Stuff like Shoe Creek, Flag Pole, Stoney Run, Big Levels....you'll do fine on all those. Even a lot of Crozet's stuff will be fine to do. A HnT will be fine, just take your time with the cut and tap.
It's a clean XJ, and if the price is good, go for it. Hope it's still there for you!

We had been looking for our XJ for over a month during that time had 4 good deals that sold out from under us, because we couldn't get to the dealership before they closed. UGH! We finally found one, bought it Tuesday, had to take off from work to get it. I've posted some pics of it on my profile. Mine is midnight blue, andit's nice but I REALLY like this white one, it looks to be in great condition. I hope you get it.
