The 40 is louder. 44 is quieter from what Flowmaster says. Don't get the super 40, though, t's quieter than the regular 40 series.

The 40 is louder, but imho they both sound awful, and are over priced

i got the regular 40 and i only like the sound of it on the trail. it sounds kinda weird in regular driving. it's not loud, but i can hear the rumble all the way in my bedroom if i leave it running outside.

I have the flowmaster Delta Flow 40 and I dunno why anyone says it's loud... it's only mild when if I really get into it.

I have the 40.
On the trail it's nifty.
Around town it's ok.
On the highway it's exhausting.(no pun intended)

full magnaflow setup on my 5.9 and a flowmaster muffler on my XJ.. both brands make a great quality unit for a good price.. specially considering warranty's.. most exhaust shops like these two brands..

But do some research on the Flowmaster with the XJ.. they get hot and there are many cases of the muffler catching the carpet on fire above it... there are a few tricks to stay away from this problem.. but honestly.. I would stick with a magnaflow muffler and Carsound cat (magnaflow hi-flow)

Hey sorry for the late response

On my Mj I run straight pipe from the manifold back sounds great at idle, on the trail becomes overwhelming, on the highway it's ridiculous. I plan on swapping things around and use a basic thrush turbo muffler. I'm not looking for an aggressive tone on my trail rig. I put this setup on for the Worcester summer nationals.

On my Xj I run a Patriot glass pack. Has a aggressive rumble after it breaks in. At idle it's just hardly noticeable, on the trail it has a good tone to it, but doesn't become to annoying. On the highway it sounds great not to loud not to soft.

Both the Thrush and Patriot mufflers will cost less then half of a Super 40

Edit: A buddy of mine had some issues with the Super 40, and Delta 40. the Super 40 would become extremely hot and at one point melted a peice of rubber on the hanger. The Delta 40..well this is no fault of it's own mostly because of how much of a hack he is fell off on the high way but that's not the mufflers fault.
