I bass fish every chance i get but don't have any pics of the xj loaded down. Most of my fishing is in small dead lakes off rivers and i have not had the chance since i bought my xj to go. It seems like the little bit of extra time i get i spend doing something to the Jeep

I literally Just took my canoe off my XJ . Lol. Went crappie fishing and slammed em'. Some nice ones too. The fish fry wasnt bad either.

I almost always have my rod rack on the roof too. Its a home-made deal that works really well. I'll post up pictures of it soon. Easy to do, and costs under $25 to make.

My preferred fishing, is for stream trout. I would have to show you a picture of my Ultra light, and a can of worms. But I do own a 18' "Bass Buggy" Pontoon boat w/ 40 hp. merc. Makes it fairly quick for a pontoon. It's kept at the family cabin, in northern Wisconsin. Used mostly for Bass fishing. Also makes a great Duck blind.

Sweet. I like the idea of this thread. This is what I am trying to do with my 99 XJ-build the ulitimate fishing and hunting rig. So far all I have is a Thule U Kayak carrier on top.

I would love to see some ideas for a roof rack monuted rod carrier. I have some 7' one piece rods that dont fit into the jeep real well!

Here is one of my homegrown rod holders on my XJ. I use this to carry my surf rods. Rear part is just a $10 rod holder meant for boats, which is held onto the cross bar with a metal U-bracket, which is then bolted in place. Front section is just spring loaded loop clips. Spring loaded broom clips work well too for about $5. This has a strip of concaved rubber on the bottom and is held on with simple hose-clamps. Bungie cord the rod into the back toobs to assure it doesnt come loose and youre good to go. If theres enough interest I can do a full write up on how to do these.

I like those roof top holders Pat. I want to rig something up like that to fit on my basket. I have rod loft pro rod holders inside my beach runner that holds six of my surf rods. I just hate having to pack them back into the Jeep when moving along the beach looking for those stripers. I want a way to mount a few on the outside while running the beach.

The nice thing about this setup is that I can bring my 1 piece 10 footer, that wont fit in the truck.

Rolling through Maine's North Woods enroute to a secluded lake. Flyfishing and using spinning gear for Trout. I'd really like to try some surf fishing soon.
