Keep it small (standard kitchen size) and mount it in the back.

A 1lb dry chemical is pretty standard for vehicles. some people carry a 2.5 lb, but a 1lb should serve you just fine.

Honestly I would keep it as close to the drivers seat as possible. The time it takes to jump out, open the hatch, un hook the bottle and run to the area on fire is all time wasted.

True, but would you rather have a fire extinguisher go off right next to you or in the back if it were to fail. I've seen plenty fail due to improper care (not checking it monthly, over-charging, not storing it properly) and when they go, it's bad. I prefer having time to get the windows down before I'm engulfed with the stuff. Mount it on the driver's side c-pillar. If it fails and goes off accidentally, it's right at the window and it'll just dump out instead of filling up your Jeep. If you do have a fire, a quick hop out and opening of the rear door has you at it.

I didn't even think about it failing, thats not common is it?

And where is yours mounted? I'm thinking on the side of the cargo area in the very back next to the hatch
