Few questions on buying a GC
I'm looking at getting a GC. I've been told to look for a 97 model by a few friends. I've only had wranglers and dont know squat about grands.
So what year do I look for and what are the pro's and con's ? There are quite a few in my area for sale.
Should I get a v8 or 6 cyl ? I'd like a v8, what is the mileage difference between the 2 ? I want a 4x4 and probably will only lift it 2-3in.
Thanks in advance

93-95 are supposed to be the best years. after 96 they have more electrical issues then the first three years.
if you get the laredo model, they are full time 4x4 and get about 19 or 20 on the highway. even if you swap in a wrangler transfer case so you can put it in 2 wheel mode on the road, its still on gets 19 or 20 on the highway. i had a laredo model and it was a super vehicle. i would still have it but some lady fell asleep with the cruise control on at 55-60 and hit us when we were stopped at a light. totaled our beautiful 93.
lifts are cheap on grands because you can do spacers on the front and rear and spacers can be found for 2 or 3 bucks each if you search (teraflex in the scratch and dent area, look up the wrangler ones because they are the same as the grand cherokee ones)
as far as the 8 or the 6, its your call on the engine. i have always went with the good old straight 6 because i know it'll run forever and parts are cheap. everyone i ever knew with the v8 liked it though.
