My key works in other jeeps...
Went to junkyward to get new rear window hatch was locked so I was just messing around and tried to unlock with my key and it opened then I went to ever other one in the yard and they all opened. Has this happened to anybody or is this a new discovery haha. It is a 1994 2 Door XJ

its probably because your key is nice and worn down that it works in other jeeps...heres one for ya, i have two cherokees. jeep A's key works for jeep A and jeep B. but jeep B's key only works for jeep B. i never really knew the science behind it but i just figure its a jeep thing lol.

There are only so many different keys made so I imagine there's not a terribly small chance of you and the next XJ owner having the exact same key. I heard the last car I owned, a nissan, had less than 10 different keys.

The keys for the other jeeps don't fit mine but mine has fit 5/5 of other jeeps so far still looking for others to test. Not really much I would do with it though don't feel like going to jail and if they have an xj with something I want they are probably my friend haha.

I'm sure 96xj is right and yours is worn down. A friend of mine and I both had a 240sx and the only difference between our keys was one notch was off by about 2mm.

I haven't tried that...I will pretty soon for experimental reasons only of course.
I don't know if this has happened to u guys (also key related), but I can remove the key from the ignition without having to turn my XJ off, it just continues running like nothing.

this is actually a pretty common thing. Most car companies (Chrysler as a whole, GM as a whole, etc) only use about 10-15 different cuts for their keys, so many vehicle have the exact same key set up. A perfect example is my mom's '01 Olds Intrigue key will unlock and start my buddy's '03 Chevy Tahoe, and vice versa. My '89 Z24 would work in my sister's '93 Beretta.
The whole "pull your key out while driving" trick is pretty common too. It's from the ignition lock cylinder getting worn down from repeated use. My wife's '01 Saturn does it.
