As far as trimming the flares you need to cut out a section so they fit flush down over where the lower door panel comes out off the door. I attached my front ones with self tapping screws and believe it or not, heavy duty double sided foam tape on the rear. I've only lost one on the rear, and that was because I hit a tree.

I did fronts and rears on mine. I was considering all tear TJ flares, but I like how the fronts make it a little different.

You could always go home brew... these cost me about 40 bucks to make with basic tools
Lawn edging
You can cut the fenders to what you need and build the flares to fit

I'd like to see a closer shot too. I'd like to see how you handled the bolts on this approach. TJ flares go perpendicular to the surface. Looks as if you might have folded the material or went along the inside of the cut wheel well.
Still really like how clean the rear TJ flares look. With some easy trim work I think it keeps the integrity of the XJ. Just my thought.

Nothing fancy with the fender cutting...

That's before the flares I just put a piece of angle metal from home depot on the fender and used it to screw on the flares with self tappers

Those are the best pics i have... not to proud of the rears but I plan to redo all four soon
