Fat people problems, seat frame fixes.
So I'm 6ft6 and tip the scales at 460ish. Needless to say my dr seat is not handling it well. So far I had to weld the seat track in the rear most position because the lock sheared off. My new problem is the seat back is reclining, like bending back. Anyone got any ideas Fab wise to fix this? Not sure if there might be a stronger seat I could swap in or just keep welding this one to death.

Cant fit a barrel a$$ in a bucket seat..
I'm kiddin..
You seem to know where the seat frame is failing, and have welding skill/tools. How about a JY donor and strengthen it where your having issues?
Seriously, how the hell do you fit in an XJ at 6'6"?

Corbeau makes seats for larger folks.
Seriously though, at that size an XJ was your choice of vehicle? I'm thinking you'd be much more comfortable in a F-250 or something.

Hey Big,
Im just up the road in Stokesdale. Seriously, you should check out a Grand Cherokee. Im only 6', 205, but my 96 ZJ has quite a bit more room for sure.
XJ seats are junk for sure. Ive welded a few in my day. After market would be the way to go for some strong buckets.

I'm 6'6" but weigh in at around 240 lbs and I fit just fine.... before I had an XJ I drove a 90 model GEO tracker, 2 door hard top. :P
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread because my driver seat was broke from the PO and I just haven't repaired/replaced it yet.

Yea I use to be a VW tech, so there is plenty of room in the XJ. When I pull the seat out to weld up I'll take pics. Here's one from this past weekend at uwharrie.

Well then delete or move. If you an admin or mod. I understand the world will end because I made a mistake. I'm a horrible person, but hopefully I can be forgiven for this.

I tend to disagree about where this is posted he needs to fab a seat for his XJ and has received some good answers and a few smart ***** ones also.
If I might try to add just a little I'm 6' 5 1/2" and weight 350 and have bad knees but once in my XJ do just fine. I have no issues with the seat in it or my 04 Grand Cherokee. With that said I have been racing for many years and racing seats usually come in one size small. But if you shop around you can find excellent seats for any app from off road to in my case drag racing (Aluminum) light weight and a few for my pro Street cars fabric and lots of padding. These seats can be ordered from several company's up to 24" width and that is wide even for me I take a 20" and have plenty of room. Even in my drag cars all door cars had adj. seat tracks in them and in my case a semi-laid back seat not much padding. Choose your seat well and you can move it from car to car or Jeep to Jeep
Shop around and consider it a long term investment plus you can fab the mount to move the seat back as far as you want, don't worry about a passenger behind you.
Good Luck,
Fred
