I'm gonna say it and I'm not being a smart *** . I am 5'10" and once tipped the scales at 325lbs. The problem isn't your seat , it's the 450lbs you're trying to put in it . I hit my biggest weight at 35 years old . Decided that if had enough when my 5 year old asked if I was gonna die of a heart attack . I'm now 220 and hit the gym every morning before work . I mean no disrespect . Every day is a new chance to start your life in a different direction .

God Speed .

None taken my friend and once I'm done with all my ankle surgeries I plan to get back in the gym. Birth defect in my ankles causes immense pain if I am on them for any length of time. So far I've had 3 surgeries and had to quit my career as a VW tech due to it. Hopefully 1st part of the year I will have my fourth and possibly my last. And yea I'm fat but this problem affects people of any size and age.

Look man, I'm not trying to be a d-bag. I'm sure you are a nice guy and all, but this section gets killed with non-fab related posts. It is one of my favorite sections on this forum, as I like to see what people are actually working on. It would be a shame to get it shut down because people simply don't follow instructions put in place by those who try to maintain the site (on their own time). You have access to a welder? Get out there and use it, beef up your seat frame and show us. I had this same problem with my old, beat up seats, they are made with cheap and flimsy metal. I got some steel flat stock, repaired what was wrong and added support. See the last pics, arrows point to the flat stock added for stability, as well as to repair the wallowed out holes.

When I was playing HS football I weighted 280# as soon as I received a scholarship from KU the first thing the coach did was have me put on weight to 325#, he liked a big and quick line.

It has caused me problems now in later life.....football that is no knees left and the weight has shifted lower but have been very active my entire life. But I would encourage anyone to keep a better BMI as we know more now than we did in the 60's for sure.

Sorry to hear about the out of work thing but I hear every day the President say how good the job deal is working that he started. Hope it turns around soon for you.

I had a friend one time that braced his seat from behind with angle iron bolted to the floor and another piece up at the back of the seat with a rod welded between the two. It kept his seat from flopping back on him.

Thanks Fred, I got some ideas. Thinkin of triangulating some thicker metal at the base of the back rest where it bends up to make the backrest hoop. Doubt I'll post it though. Think I'll go back to using this site as a search tool. Took me a day to find this post again after it was moved.

We have a guy on our street a little bigger than you, he's about 10 more pounds, anyway, during his last heart attack about 2 or 3 neighbors had to help the EMT's shoehorn him into the ambulance, seems like an XJ would be a little snug.

Haha. No fears of a heart attack. Morbid obesity hasn't caught up with me yet. I'm sure it will start causing me problems soon. I'm 31 now. Doc says other than being fat and bad ankles I'm in good health. And yes the XJ is snug but I like it.
