Default Fan bearing hub bypass or replace

My fan bearing hub is shot. It's shaking back and forth really bad. I was doing some research and apparently you have to replace the whole assembly and you can only get this part from jeep. I also found that you can completely get rid of this fan hub by getting a shorter belt and grind down the bracket a little bit, then mount up an electric fan. Is this possible? Or i can go to the junk yard and pick up a used assembly. What would you do?

That's a great find, although I'm confused as to how to actually R&R the bearing. I read that NAXJA thread, and it sounds like a press may be needed...?

Also, anyone know of a definitive source for that bearing?

What year XJ? If its a RENIX(87-90) the fan bearing/AC bracket is no longer available.

I have had to convert both of my RENIX era XJ's to the r134 system and a newer style AC compressor bracket/clutch fan hub.

Here are some pics of one of the conversions;

Ended up just picking up an assembly from a junk yard for 25 bucks. What a deal! Going to try and get that bearing and press it in at my shop thanks guys.

Heat it in an oven. The bracket should expand more than the bearing. It might just fall out.
