Default Fair price for this 97 XJ Manual AX15?

Hey all, sold my 99 xj yesterday, and realllyyyy want a manual one. They are few and far between here in Michigan, and I found one and managed to talk the guy down to $2700.

Think its fair for this Jeep? Im going tomorrow to look at it. Heres the link to it:

https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/5852297352.html

Ive only seen three of these ever for sale online, two were over $3500 and one was a clapped out one for $2500. I know the AX15 is worth more, just not sure how much more. Thanks guys.

Yes I can. Was going to redo the rockers this winter as well as the rear fender lips and put Bushwick er flares on all 4 and a nice set of rocksliders

the ax15 is worth more to who exactly? Most would prefer the aw4 auto because it's so reliable. The ax15 is as well, just not like the aw4.

Anyway back to the jeep. I know your in the rust belt and all. But 2700 for something that is probably a nightmare underneath seems excessive to me. Maybe that's the going rate there though so I'm not sure haha.

He has had that jeep on there for awhile now. I went and looked at it. Transmission shifted just like mine does. Slave felt old though. Offer him $3000 and he will probably bite.

I went and looked at it. He said he'd take 2500 but it just had too much rust. I passed on it.

Fort Gratiot Township, about 45 minutes north of Detroit. At the moment I'm still out in white Lake looking at jeeps though lol

Update, I texted him back and said $2250. If he takes that I'll be making the 2 hour drive AGAIN today, skipping my class, to bring the XJ home.

Ax15 is just as reliable as the aw4 as long as you use proper gear oil

Damn I have to agree, hope his 99 was very rusty also he sold if not may be surprised on what he finds. A trans is the easiest thing to change on one and freight would not have been that much from anywhere in the US truck freight.

Both are equally stout transmissions. I've never heard a single person have anything bad to say about the AX15, in fact it's probably one of the best modern Jeep transmissions around.

AX5 on the other hand... nope.

People prefer the AW4 simply because it's an automatic, not really from a reliability standpoint.

Most prefer the auto for wheeling.

I was compulsive and went and bought it. 2500 bucks later and a 2 hour drive home for the SECOND time, and she's mine. Will be rust free by the time winter is over!
