They made two versions, the body mount version is the earlier, and the bumper is the latter and much more sought after because it can hold more weight. Neither were produced in very big numbers and most people didn't buy them because they were expensive, unnecessary for most people, and required you to relocate the license plate.

That explains alot. I've seen 3 around here that have a tag bracket and/or trim ring on the left side of the hatch but, their tag is mounted in the center. None of the 3 have the spare tire mount though and I didn't see any indication that there used to be one.
