Never seen a factory one like that... Mine's designed a little different but they must've had a couple versions...

The one one mine was only one jeeps from 87-89 yhe one you have was from 90-97 (i think) then from 97-2001 they had the roof mounted one that went into the roof rail.

That's factory? I just can't see Jeep bolting a rod to the bodywork like that.

HighRoller's looks more factory to me.

HighRoller 11-27-2012 04:22 PM

I'm fixing to remove mine... That's an older pic of the jeep sitting at 3.5 inches with 32's. It's a couple inches higher now and I'm going to 35's so it'll be useless.

I got this one off a 84 cherokee chief xj. I got one like highrollers of a 91 two door. Grab the whole thing, bumper included. I am runn ing 34x10.50 swampers on mine. Not sure why Highrollers will be useless with 35s?

I just can't see trusting a factory carrier to hold a 35 mounted on a steel wheel over rough terrain... It's not designed for it and won't hold up. imo

I am running around the mountains of colorado and have not had any trouble yet.YET being the key word. The bumper mount is ok but I do worry about the attachment on the fiberglass hatch.

HighRoller 11-27-2012 07:30 PM

Yea the hatch is my main concern.... A 35 x 12.50 on a steel wheel is heavy. I plan to switch over to a tailbone http://www.detoursusa.com/tailbone.php soon.

x2 thats why I took mine off thats like that once I went to 35s.

tmj91 I really like your Jeep! Nice find on the carrier.

I think it has been settled already but I believe both styles of the tire carrier were factory, just from different times.

is that "rally" stripes?
