I asked this question on NAGCA aswell and a guy posted this...
"I used a diluted mixture of ZEP all purpose cleaner on my wife's seats to get out a pretty serious coffee stain. Spray on, let sit for a few minutes, then used a wet rag to remove. Look good as new. I've used a turtlewax/oxyclean branded upholstery cleaner in the past as well with pretty solid results."
I just thought I better share it with you dude in an xj...

I tried a few different brands on my super dirty seats. I tried the one w/oxy clean and a few others. The best one IMO is the one called "tuff stuff". Worked the best for me.

Blue Coral makes a spray foam upholstery cleaner that I used in the past to get out some nasty coffee/tobacco stains from the velour seats in my father in laws van. Spray it on, rub it in good, let it dry, vacuum it off. Really tough spots may need a second application. That stuff worked great. That van was so nasty I didn't want to sit in it before, but after I cleaned it it looked like new. For a while any way.

I bought some stuff called Purple Power from the local parts store to clean my tools. The jeans I normally wear for wrenching were stained beyond belief from all the grease and oil and they now look like new. It is supposed to be dilluted before use, but I used a spray bottle and put it on at full strength, let it sit for about 5 minutes and tossed them into the wash. Worked like magic on oil and grease, but for dirt and mud I would go for a standard off the shelf upholstery cleaner.
