Cool Fabing/modifing spare tire for over sive (31") tire

I have searched. I remember a thread on a guy who adapted the OEM mount to work with a larger than stock tire. I want to use one of my old tires as a full size spare. Got it mounted & balanced today & took out the 225/75r15 spare I had/have. 1992 XJ sport.

thanks

A 31" should mount just fine in the current spot.... barely, but fit none the less.

I just put a 31 where my dounut was and it fits perfect without moving the seat forward. you can get a part at the hardware store with a hook on one side that threads into a sleeve that has a eye loop threaded into the other side of the sleeve. I used the plastic cone to center the tire however it wont sit strate because of the wheel well bump.

I know my 31" does not fit in the stock location. The difference is in some of the older models for some reason it will fit for them, but not in the 97+ without some type of modification to the mount or seats.

i have 31X10.50s, my spare isnt an exact match but it is close.
i have a custom bumper with a swing out rack on the back that has it on it. works really well for me. (latly i have also put 2 5 gal gas cans on next to it. no pics yet)

In my 97+ model, I just measured over an inch or so and drilled and tap'd a new holes. The back seat is not noticebly lopsided. and it fits in a 31, you have to angle it right when putting it in.
