Default the epic rotor snap *pic heavy*

A few days ago my xj would start thumping softing when i get on the brakes. I pulled my brakes apart and couldnt find the issue. So i parked the xj in the drive way until my buddy got back into town. Yesterday morning on the way to his house the thump was still slight a driver cut me off and i had to slam on brakes and i lost half of my brake power. I thought my caliper let go. So i decided since his house was right up the road id keep going until i got to his place. Once we jacked up the front and took the tires off we found this...

Chrysler had a recall on some rotors for failing. I got the rotors replaced on my '92 for free. Might be worth checking if you have an outstanding rotor recall.

Where would i start for that recall? Like take it to a jeep dealership and show them the rotor?

Wow! I have never seen something like that happen... makes me think it might have been getting really hot due to caliper not letting go of the disc.

Crazy how it was almost a perfect break... I don't know if I'd bronze it but I'd hang on to it as a conversation piece... lol.

When I requested my build sheet from Chrysler they informed me of the outstanding recall. You should be able to call a Chrysler/Jeep dealership and they can look it up by VIN.

No problem. Let us know if it's covered by the recall. Can't say I've ever seen a rotor fail like that before... Glad it didn't cause an accident.

Ive seen that a few times.

sometimes Its just a crack and will make a hell of a squeaking noise from the vibrations when braking.
