Engine swap
The vw diesel will be the lightest weight and make enough power.A 4bt cummins is 750lbs almost 200lbs heavier then the 4.0.I would skip a diesel and go ls a 5.3 truck motor and trans are cheap enough and can be built up pretty nasty of you want that.As far as mileage the ls and a diesel would be pretty close in the real world.

I hate diesels, Cherokees were available from the factory here in the UK with a 2.5 turbo diesel. They're noisy, smelly and slow. They also like a headgasket or three.

I would love to see one. Problem is usually the weight. Plus with something like the LS, Novak makes it really really easy.
