electric Jeep
With any motor vehicle you will always have emissions,A electric car the power your taking from the pole was made with emissions.Only way around that solar panels on the car or house both are pricey. If you want cheap 0 emissions get a horse and learn to ride it.

The new ford ev's are claiming 300 miles per charge. I'm pretty sure, those numbers do not take into account load. So lets say you can get 300 miles on flat ground, what happens when you start doing hills? Batteries drain faster. If you are in the sticks, a xj covered in solar panels ain't going to charge your power bank for ish, if you can even get the sun.
Cost: will be through the roof
When the system collapses, there will be no power grid. Do you have a lot of generators, solar, windmills, hydro wheels to keep it going? What happens when those batteries meet their max life? Where will you get new ones? What about when electric motors burn out? Are you knowledgable on reworking them??
Too many negatives. The only positive I can see, electric motors produce max torque no matter where the skinny pedal is....

My boss's 2007 escape hybrids battery pack STB at 98000 miles (replaced under warranty)
Another couple months he would have been SOL.
And what about water crossings?
North East winters with heater/defroster, lights, radio all running at once?
Battery technology isn't there yet just ask A123 systems. Oh that's right millions in federal $
And they still went bankrupt.
Perpetual motion?
Not in our lifetime probably never.

Troll alert!
Anyway, electric vehicles won't be 0 emission until we crack nuclear fusion. Even then, there'll be an environmental cost to build the power stations themselves.
Until then I'm running on propane - 30% less CO2 emissions if that worries you. Personally I'm in it for the cost saving which is about 40% in the UK because the government taxes Propane (we call it LPG) at a lower rate than Petrol (GAS) because of the lower CO2 output.
IMO electric vehicles will always suck if they rely on batteries. Fuel cells are the way forward simply because you can refuel them with water/diesel/whatever they're running on instead of having to recharge them for hours. Any battery that charges fast dies soon.
