Default Electric brakes?

Anyone heard of electric brakes as a factory option on an XJ? Had someone tell me they had an early 90's(?)so equipped. Also said it was offered for only one year.

Having no idea on it I thought I'd ask. Got to talking disc brake conversions on the xj's and he brought up electric brakes.

Do you mean having an electric trailer brake control in an XJ?

Nope. Said it had no brake booster or master cylinder. Seemed to know a good bit about XJ modifications we talk about here. Said it had a hard peddle but worked ok until one day he whips into his mom's driveway and the brakes fail to stop him. Slammed into her car. Probably be a while before I see him again but I'll get him to elaborate more.

I have seen on some GM vehicles that they dont have a vac line going to the booster. Instead it has a little electric vac pump. Maybe something similar to that?

^ Ain't that crazy? My wife's '96 Blazer 4x4 system has mechanical, electrical, and vacuum operated components. All so you only have to push a button instead of pulling a lever to engage the 4x4 system. Took me a while to redo that conglomeration.

From I gathered from the short conversation we had it had a totally electric brake system. He's going to have to be a lot more specific the next time we talk.

I'm pretty sure that no manufacturer is going to have fully electronic brakes ever. Just like people that think steering now Adams is fully electronic, it's not. What happens when when power completely is lost and you can't control the vehicle? Lawsuit. That's the big controversy with autonomous vehicles.

I'm calling bs on that with out a master cylinder he would have no brakes at all.A xj has a hydraulic brake system like most other cars on the road.On a fully electric car they have a master cylinder but have a electric brake booster in english. And a semi or something with air brakes don't have one but that system is backwards. With out air in a air brake system the brakes will lock and stop you.The air holds the brakes open.
