if you haven't already, just go get some HREW and start making triangles
Nearly every time someone makes a thread I see bashing for using rew instead off the almighty DOM. I dunno though lol

I can get 1.5" or 1.75" .120 wall DOM for ~$3 a foot, so that's what I'll probably be using lol. If not, HREW will be the next choice.

goatman-
For an interior cage I'd use HREW and save the money. For an exo cage, or any outside cage, I'd use DOM. While the DOM makes a stronger cage, it isn't that important on an interior cage since it doesn't take much cage to give adequate strength to the roof and stucture that's already there. For an exo or other cage I'd defintely use DOM which is stronger and won't dent so easily. HREW cages get rock rash and dents pretty easily, so can look funky after a couple seasons, where a DOM cage won't dent as easily and can still look good after abuse.

The difference between HREW and DOM is the work hardening that happends when it's drawn over the mandrel, making the tubing tougher and stronger. My XJ cage is HREW, but my buggy cage is DOM. In fact all the outside tubes on the buggy are .188 wall to further insure that it doesn't get dented up after a few seasons.

I plan for the worst, the worst being a flop or two, so I'd like the assurance of the DOM since this XJ means so much to me.

If it's internal it's still gonna take a good beating lol.
REW is perfectly fine internally imo. it's about structure

I'm doing a hybrid. Halo up top with pillar supports through the roof and outside the A pillar. Everything that is probably going to be hitting rock is already 3/16 steel.

even if it's full internal and hugging fairly tight, you will still total the cab in an upside down rollover. the cage will be completely fine though

that's why hybrid is so popular. even if you go on your lid, it's probably still gonna be mostly ok

I'd use a plate on top that bolts to the roof and seat it with rubber. That might be a bad idea though.
I've been awake for some time now lol

Drill good holes, weld a plate to the roof and hope it doesn't leak. And silicon.
