I don't know who most people are, but think about it... You can't drive around at 50 mph to you don't NEED high, and by putting it in low you get 2.7 times the torque on the wheels, which equals 2.7 times less load on the engine and trans which equals LESS HEAT.

Seems stupid to me that people would recommend running in 4 hi in a slow speed, high drag application. Putting it in 4 low is mechanically easier all the way around on the Jeep. That's why the 4 low option is there.

Just air down to 15 and put her in 4low. If you're still digging too much air down to 10. I've run stock tires, bald 33s and the dura tracs I have now. 10 is what works for me. If you start overheating, put her in neutral for a few, should cool down some. Just keep moving and don't idle on drive. That's when you start overheating. And if the guage does start to spike, shut her down and pop the hood. Everything on mine is stock except the lift and tires. I beat the hell out it at the dunes and have no issues. Driving across the beach should be cake.

Dunno where you plan on going, but most the public beaches in OBX that you can drive on have free air at the entrance/exit so there's no reason not to air down on the beach.

It makes sense honestly hell even the haynes manuel and the owners manuel says to run 4-low in the sand but some of the people Iv talk to said to run 4-hi because it is harder to turn the tires over wich meens less likely to get stuck

Your over thinking i bud, go drive on the beach, see if you start to overheat, you probably wont have any issues if you just follow some adivice from this thread. I run the dudes alot. 4 low - 13 psi - 40 mph tops.

I was just in Corolla, NC with mine this weekend with mine, with 12 psi in my 33" BFG MTs I went from the end of 12 to the VA/NC line in 2wd without an issue. Stopped to pull out a fwd Kia, wound up just pulling him up over the dunes to his rental house lol. Granted I'm a 5sp but as long as you air down you'll be fine. My uncle took his 02 Wrongler out on Oregon Inlet a couple yrs ago and didn't air down cause he felt he'd be alright and ran in 4HI to boot, before he got halfway to the bridge his transmission had gotten so hot it had ballooned the torque converter to be point it was making the flex plate contact the back of the engine block and it was spewing fluid out of the trans vent. Since he started listening to me about how to drive on the beach he's been completely fine, never had another issue.

Don't worry about the road. as long as you aren't driving like you're in a race car, you'll be fine till you get to a gas station. Your tires might squawk a little when you turn because you have more touching the ground, but just go slow. People drive with low air pressure due to lack of maintenance all the time. As long as you aren't running on your sidewall and its only for a short time, you'll be fine.

Hmmm seems like the over heated trans issue only happends to the wranglers. Do they have the trans that we have or is it different?

I ride mine at the desert often in 90deg weather and never had issues. I do air down to 15 psi though.

The difference is NOT the vehicle. It's the idiot driving it that doesn't know what he's doing. You can overheat about anything in the sand if you don't drive it correctly, or you can keep from overheating about anything if you drive it correctly. Follow the advise multiple people have stated and go have some fun!

On a side note, if you're not going to stop worrying, install a trans temp gauge (if you haven't already) with the sender installed in the line leaving the torque converter going up to the cooler(s). That will be the hottest point in the system and you'll know EXACTLY how hot you are or are not running.

Here's links to how I set mine up.
