Do you guys double pump the gas pedal for quicker acceleration?
When I am in highway traffic and I have to accelerate fast, I find that double pumping the gas pedal makes the XJ respond faster than flooring the gas pedal just once.
There is a transfer ramp from one expressway to another, it is a slight up hill, and I always to have make it fast because the traffic I am merging into is already doing 60-70 mph. So I speed up by tapping the gas pedal halfway down, let up, and then floor it. I think it is a transmission thing that lets it engage faster.
But this is just me. Nothing scientific.

I can't say I've ever tried this, but I've never been disappointed by the response in my engine or transmission when I just floor it. It pretty well hauls ***.

Considering today was my first time driving an auto Jeep on the freeway, I would say it did just fine. Where I get on the freeway, all the retards do 45 for no reason. They actually slow down right before everyone needs to merge instead of speeding up to match the speed of traffic. The next lane over is doing 70. I would say the Jeep kicked down and went perfectly fine. Not any noticeable lag on the downshift and plenty of power to get back up to speed.

Why not just grab the shifter and slide her into 3 and go? I've honestly never had an issue with highway/merging speeds even on 35's. The ol girl gets out of her own way with plenty of pep.

Cool that you got the project running well on the highway

I would say when you do that it pops out of overdrive but like the above comment id just slip it into 3 on the shifter and go but my jeep is MILES better with throttle response as opposed to alot of new cars where you floor it and nothing happens for what feels like an eternity. I blame the fly by wire system instead of an old cable system

This is actually something I've been doing it for years. I do it mostly when I want the transmission to downshift without accelerating. At the bottom of a hill, for example. I'm still on 35's with 3.55's (kinda embarrassed to still be saying that around here) so the trans doesn't always know when to downshift.
