XJ using a lot of gas
My XJ is using way too much gas, out of nowhere. I used to get 15mpg at least, but this week I've been getting around 7.
I've also noticed, that when I first hit my gas pedal after sitting still, it kind of cuts out before sounding like normal, when accelerating, just for half a second.
Anyone know what this might be?

Sorry maybe I missed something? What is funny? I was just trying to be helpful? I realize that there is a lack of information on his particular XJ. I just looked at his previous post and it stated he had a 1994 XJ 4.0....

However, nothing's posted in this thread... kind of a biggy for people who aren't regular followers.

Also what he has described above are classic signs of a bad throttle position sensor. Don't get me wrong it could be a whole host of other issues but a tps seems the most plausible.

Actually, for a pre-97 XJ with the 4.0, that kind of massive loss in fuel economy is most often the MAP vacuum tube has broken or come off.
