Ok so I was at 4 wheel parts today and was gunna buy an hi lift jack and mount it across my hood( saw someone else with one like that on their cherokee and like it) but then I was questioning. Do I really need one ? Will I even use it. ? Should I get one ? I don't do anything crazy really that I would need a jack. Any input

Do you really need one?
Well only you can answer that question. Do you wheel hard enough that you'll get stuck?
It's a handy tool. I'd grab one for the hell of it

Like he said, will you ever use it? I've been in a few spots that having one would've been nice, but I sorted the situation out anyways. Never truly needed one.

Another question to ask yourself is can I use it on my jeep? It'll crush stock bumpers and rockers. I have 2, a 48" that I've had for years and used a ton and a 60" I got last year that's been used once so far.

xjmarc has a point in that it will do you no good without a solid point, like a aftermarket bumper or rock sliders. Its a great tool though; very useful. Mine has gotten me out of a few jams.

I am having my buddy build me a rear bumper sliders are on the list and so is a front bumper with winch. I know it will destroy oem stuff it dosent seem like I use it ever. As for the hood mount anytime I would have to open the good I would just remove it wouldn't e that hard. The mouts are light. And it's true I don't get stuck! I almost get stuck. I don't do anything really tough my skills arnt there yet neither is my recover equipment as my skill progresses and my ***** drop more I will eventually get stuck but by then I will have a winch and proper recovery points.

I have a Hi-Lift in my XJ and have never used it there. I have one in my work truck ('76 Dodge Power Wagon) and I have used that one a bit. Used it on my tractor, trailers and other items out in the woods. I carry a 12-ton bottle jack that I use for changing tires and such, but if I ever NEED the Hi-Lift, I have it. They can be used as a jack, a come-along, a clamp, spreader, barb-wire fence stretcher, post puller...etc. Lots of uses.

It didn't crush my stock front bumper when I jacked myself up.

You could get one of these until you get more stout bumpers and rock rails. Hi lift lift mate.

Yup..like the other guy said..
If you dont know if you need one, then you dont need one.
Good investment if you know how to use one, and have the need for one..
