If I were to buy another one I would get a 97-98. They have the C8.25 rear and don't have the bad cylinder heard like the 00-01's do.

I have a 97 and my friend has a 98, both have been lifted and maintained at my place. for some odd reason, the 98 has different plugs for all their sensors, but are essentially the same as my 97, just cost 2-3 times as much. Seems like they just changed the plug so they could charge more? I dunno, but they are not interchangable because of that. After having been around the cherokees for a couple years... I'm finding I have a fondness for the older renix engines.

99. most have the c8.25 rearend, they have the better mani's, prolly better condition/less miles cuzz it's newer. The plastic gastanks don't rust through, and a few other small things. 97-99 is all good. I do like the ok'd renix's better but that's ok. 00-01 are just blah to me.
if you plan on lifting more than 4" u will need a sye with newer ones tho.

ok, on the 99's, there's a reason they got a manifold upgrade... New emissions requirements costed the 4.0 about 15 hp. They made up for it by updating the intake manifold. So you're not gaining anything by that manifold unless you put it on an older 4.0
