Detours USA and Thor Guards vs. DUI driver.
I have not been online much as of the last few months.
I want to give props out to Detoursusa.com and Thor Guards for me being alive, so I am gonna cut and paste the posts made on another forum which most of the members here would not be signed on to. Any NW NAXJA member would have also seen the summery of this.
Sorry I have to vent and thank the appropriate people.
To set the stage:
I-5 southbound. It's my Friday. 2 a.m. Got off work, in a great mood.
Blasting the tunes, set the cruise control. Lovin life.
To shorten the story. I got hit at 60 mph by someone who was accelerating around 80. I was in such fear about how mangled my Jeep was gonna be. A witness could not believe I was able to gain control and and not flip.
She looks unharmed at this point.
The thank you list:
God - for not driving my car today, and being in the hospital or dead. My little car would have been splattered. The Jeep only gets driven about 4 times per year to work. The timing is incredible.
Thor guards - I have seen so many of these Jeeps with that buckle in the rear area after being rear ended.
I believe that helped.
Detours USA - For building and selling me the bumper which was smacked. That thing is so stout, the Officers and witness thought she bounced off of the tire. It wasn't until I grabbed the Officers flashlight, I realized her fluids were splashed all over the rear hatch and bumper.
John at ACRO for establishing the group buys which led to the purchase of my Thor guards.
I believe all of those elements got me home in one piece.
Good night guys/gals.

Today's update:
So, The witness to the situation is a Mustang/Gun guy who kind of looked like my Dad, so we had a lot to chat about until I came down off my adrenaline high. I called tonight to get him information about some place my Dad took his vette to get sold. He has a 68 Mustang he wants to get rid of.
While we were talking it popped in my head, 'what did he see when I got hit'?
So I asked, and it scared the **** out of me. I guess within my adrenaline rush, I lost time. He estimated she hit me going 85-90 mph at 56th street in Tacoma. That is about a mile difference before I remember pursuing the fleeing driver.
I remembered he kept repeating how he swore I was gonna flip. Jeeps do have a populational reputation for bad drivers and being on there sides. Not to mention my higher than average center of gravity.
At contact, he said my Jeep rotated 90 degrees. and crossed in front of his path. I knew I was in the second to fasted passing lane on a four lane freeway. He said similar to a fishtailing recovery, it took me three skids to get it straight. Crossed two lanes and got control on the 56th street on-ramp.
I remember the bang, and doing a little dance to get her back in control. When it was recovered, I was driving two lanes, but don't remember which.
Right now, I am in shock

Thanks.
My Jeep only gets driven to work, maybe 6 times per year. The odds were truly against me, but I had an angel on the shoulder. I just can't get over how destroyed my commuter would have been.

That's one tough Oldsmobile to make impact at 85mph and to only have a bum fender, headlight, hood and bumper...
Glad everyone's in one piece.
This Ranger was only doing 50 when it made impact.

ah, i must have read it wrong. i read it as he was hit standing still. 20-25mph difference makes sense.
i've been rear ended in my old jeep by people doing no more than 15 mph while i was standing still at a light and my jeep pretty much totaled one (civic) and damaged another one real bad (accord or camry, dont remember). both time the jeep took no damage... they both got a combo of gas tank skid and trailer hitch lol
