Sucks.

The bright side is:
a. you HAVE an XJ while tons of other guys are wanting an XJ
b. you KNOW whats in yours. The guy who just got one has no clue about his yet.
c. you have this forum to help you find another T case or a reputable shop to fix yours.
d. your XJ is paid for !! No monthly payments, no interest accruing while depreciating.

YES YOU SHOULD!!!!

No, man. We all need to vent once in a while. There's nothing wrong with it, and no better place to do it.

Cost of a new or newer car+ cost of insuring+ dealer services for warranty x the hit you take on depreciation = OMG !!!!
Cost of a good used XJ + what it takes to make it good for a couple hundred thousand miles ?

When it comes to the often spouted adage"your time is worth money" consider these points:
Everyone's time on the job as applicable is worth X dollars per hour after taxes.
How many work hours after taxes equals one shop hour at the dealership or garage / shop including taxes ?
Are any of us getting paid by our employers during our off time ?
Is off time better spent watching TV or excising the mind and fine motor skills doing technical craft work like fixing or maintaining your XJ for example ?

Good points here... I can't agree more... the sound of paid for / title in hand has such a good "ring" to it than new car, in debt, higher insurance, intentionally engineered so you almost can't work on it yourself (unless you're a professional mechanic with your own shop), etc, etc. And even though we do have to put hard earned cash into them, at the end of the day, even when we do, it's still cheaper/less than an every month car payment on a new car with higher insurance.
I get the frustration part though... with our older jeeps (xj's)... sometimes when stuff hits the fan, it doesn't feel like there's a bottom to the rabbit hole to fix them. I've been there, anyone with an older jeep has been there, or is there currently. It's a fact, not just with "older jeep" ownership,
but think of it this way. We are keeping 20+ year old vehicles on the road. It won't matter if it's a Ford, Jeep, Toyota, etc... once a vehicle hits that age mark, they're all going to need work to keep them going. Sure some more than others....but honestly, I'd rather have to buy parts for a jeep
than a Toyota any day... much cheaper. And to me one big plus for our old XJ's is the fact that they were and are still so popular, there are several companies that still make nearly every single part for them. Let's face it, that most 20+ year old vehicles simply do not have that kind of a following and getting parts for them are nearly impossible and are much more expensive for when you can get your mitts on them.

Well, another $1,200 down the rabbit hole. Essentially the same outcome.... plus a bonus!

The jazzy Novak shift cable doesn’t work.

New reman t-case from a different company. New Adam’s driveshaft.

Granted the vibes are 50% less.

But now I cannot get into 4-wheel drive.

When you install it, you really need to make sure it is adjusted right.
I installed one on my Chero, and at first it was not adjusted to where it needed to be. It also was hard shifting the first few times.
It works perfectly now. I have been using it continuously the last two days in the 4Ft of snow we got.

Skip the Novak cable shifter and go for a BoostWerks shift linkage kit. Adjustment is super easy, just spin the rod in or out until shifting is perfect.
Mine works great (4.5" lift on 35's, SYE + ford 8.8 rear diff)
