No contest. 8.25 in the 27 spline version will outlast a 35 and the 29 spline will hold 35s.

X2- the 8.25 is much stronger then a Dana 35. The 29 spline will version will easily handle 33's locked up,heck one of the guys I wheel with has a 29 spline with a Detroit and 35's and he hasn't had a problem. Not saying its bulletproof by any means but its a big upgrade from a 35

So the Dana 35 has the 29 spline count and the 8 1/4 has the 27? I was changing out my rear diff gasket today and found out that I had the 8 1/4 rear end

No the 8.25 has 2 different spline counts 27 is the older one 29 is newer one. I think yours if it's a 95 has the 27 spline like mine

97 and newer 8.25 is a 29 spline shaft. Pre 97 would be 27 spline.

Ok so the 8 1/4 with the 27 spline count is still pretty tough?

Yes it is. The Dana 35's only have 27 spline shafts. A 27 spline 8.25 is still far stronger then the 35.

X2
The axle tubes, and ring and pinion are larger and the differential housing is also stronger.
The C/8.25 with 27 spline axles are easily upgraded to the 29 spline version.
All that is needed are the shafts and a 29 spline carrier. ( or 29 spline full carrier locker )
