Default dana 44

Just wondering if anyone knows the best vehicles to look for in a junk yard that would have a dana 44 to replace the 8.25 that my xj already has.

Only place your gonna find bolt in is another Cherokee. 1987 was the year with the 44 with towing package.

Some isuzu rodeo's have a 44, but they're 6 lug.

Explorer 8.8 is very a popular swap too.

Why do you want to swap a C/8.25 out for a D/44?
I would just upgrade the 27 spline C/8.25 shafts to 29 splines with 1541H alloys, but where I'm at finding Cherokee D/44s is like finding gold. ( not easy )

YOu can alos look into the Isuzu rodeo... has a disc brake d44 with 6 lug... waggy 44 6 lug...

I do have to agree a 8.8 with disc brakes and a LSD from a j-yard is a steal.

If you bought 29 spline alloy shafts for your 8.25, like mentioned earlier, you'd be just as well off as if you had a d44 imo

Yep, that is what I'm running 35s on, 1541H 29 spline shafts, with a Detroit locker. Shafts, gears, master install kit, and Detroit locker, = under $1000.00

Or wait and be patient and find deals on someone elses d44. I sold one with alloy shafts, Lock right, and zj disc brakes for 800 a yr ago. It was roughly 50% of what it cost to build. Be patient the deals are out there.

Some places the deals aren't out there. Unless the OP is planning on running tires larger than 35s a C/8.25 with 29 spline shafts will work fine. D/44 is a lot harder to find here anyway, than the 97+ C/8.25, and if you find one it is two to three times the cost of the C/8.25.
