Default Damage expected and help getting me out

so i'm stupid.. went out alone with a stock xj into the woods and got stuck in deep mud. the mud is up the headlights and right at the muffler. we had to abandon it for the night so its simply sitting in the water right now.

my first question, what sort of damages do you guys think will ensue from letting it sit overnight? mudding seeping in? alternator shot?

now i need some help getting it out. no tow truck companys by me that go off road recvoery and i dont have anyone readily available to pull it out if they even could. we got a come along and some chain but i dont know if thats even going to get it out. it wouldnt reach to a tree straight back so we hooked it up to a tree to the side trying to shimmy it over. in turn this tweaked the frame and it took some persuasion to close the tailgate..

anyone by stafford virginia that could lend a hand?

any suggestions from you guys would be great and yes i know im stupid womp...

I always wheel alone. And was going to start a thread on it.

As long as its running, fine. And the tranny is above water. You are good. When you get it out change the diff fluids. Should be fine.

You need to straight line pull it, or close to straight even if you need more chain. A high lift jack will get you out of about anything. However for you if you can't get another truck back there. Grab a few friends and some straps/chains whatever it takes. Two more come a longs if you can get them. Shovels/logs, whatever. There is always a way.

Unless you are almost out of the hole. Pull it backwards. It went in , you can get it out.

you will have to drain all the fluids and re grease everything. sitting in water is so bad for everything. im gonna guess you have no good tow points either?

I've got a hook in the rear and two in the front. Pictures coming soon!
Perfect that I need to change out all the fluids and such I was planning on it anyway.

I shut the car off after I got in the hole, after some time started it up and it then shut off soon after. Waited a few minutes then started it again. Revved and turned and dug myself deeper and it shut off again.. Sooo what gives?

Change out the fluids as the others mentioned. As long as your breather tube for the tranny is above water, it should be fine, but your diff prob need to be changed unless it is vented. The main concern is the vultures that will strip your jeep to the ground.

I would say you have lots of fluid changing.. Don't try and start it again because I would say you have water in the air box as well. Im sure you hit the hole pretty hard huh. Belts gonna slip diffs gonna have crap in it. You may be pushing it on the trans. Good luck

Wd40 might b helpful drying out any wet electrical connections.

As suggested change all your fluids, probably new air filter. Pull the plugs and turn it over once you get it out to make sure there's no water in the cylinders. Did the inside get wet too?

You don't know ANYONE with a 4x4?

You're also going to want to pull the drums off your rear brakes and clean all the **** out of them.

Yea that kind of sucks. I would get a tow home though if possible. I caught a Bronco on fire one time like that because water was in the tranny and it heated up and shot fluid out the tube and onto the exhaust. FIRE, FIRE lol

I know a few that could help me but none available. Guy with a jk is out of town, kid with bronco his parents won't let him out. Another xj is in PA and so forth.. I'm going back up in the morning, bring an air compressor to dry out as much as possible and some tools. Going to buy another come along and some more rope/chain.

Anything else?

Pull the carpet out and let everything dry. Your alternator is likely toast, I would pickup a can of CRC electra-motiv and douche it out.
