Default D-Ring tab question

How wide should I make my d-ring tabs for my bumper? I was thinking of using 1"x2" flat bar.

make them part of your frame mounting plates and have them poke thru your bumper, do not surface weld them.....

1/4" mounting plates then build them up to about 1" or bigger (depends on what shackles you are going to use).

with a 3/4" shackle i would make them 1" wide anyways...

Size Diameter = 3/4"
Working Load Limit = 6 1/2 ton
Pin Diameter = 7/8"
Width between Eyes = 1 1/4"
something like this works perfect as a starting point:

I've got the plans all drawn up in VectorWorks, just had to know what width to use for the tabs. They're definitely gonna be tied in well. This is for a rear bumper, by the way. Mounting it with the eight factory bolts and six inside the frame. 14 bolts should be plenty, I think?

P.S. This reminds me I have a PDF file of front frame tie-ins with dimensions and everything, guess I'll have to start designing my front bumper as well lol.

14 bolts will be fine. on my front i run 7 per side and have had some HARD tugs at all angles from pulling people out.

and good job mounting to the factory hitch bolts.

3/4" or 1" should be prefect thickness and design how you wish on mounting

btw my best advice for the rear bumper. get some 2x4 box steel and mount that into your frame and have it stick out, use some 3/16" or 1/4" plate and slip it over the box steel and mount it to your factory bumper mounts, weld that together to get this:

then that exposed 2x4 you can cut off a C section giving a piece of "flat stock" to make your D ring tab off of.

kinda like this:

Yeah, my plan involved 2x4 for the brackets. Good to know others have done the same Since it's my first welding project I was actually gonna do the whole bumper in 2x4 .250 wall for simplicity/cost. I'll see about getting an image of my plans up tomorrow. It's basically gonna be like this one I made a long time ago in MSPaint:

Yeah I have seen that post. let me draw up a quick image to help ya out of MY opinion. it is your bumper and more power to you for building on. my first one was 3/8" 3x6 box steel only because i picked up an 80" piece for $37 lol

Been really busy lately but This is what I have in 3d. I scrapped the idea of using angle iron to mount to the stock bumper bolts, decided to use a plate instead and mount the rectangle perpendicular to it. Gussested on the outer side and the D-ring tabs are welded thru on the inner side, just to brace the whole thing together. Also in this render the tabs are 3/8" cause I forgot to resize them.

That is a really good deign! what I would look into as well, if you are going the cut n fold on your lower quarter panels angle the ends up and have your extension pieces come back under the cut n fold.

cut n fold:
