Default custom roof rack

I was thinking about making a custom roof rack for my xj.I'm planning on just using angle iron, and welding it together. I'm open to all suggestions!

If it done right it can be very nice. Very simple to use and can be very strong. Good luck!

when i did mine i made the bottom outta angle and then used conduit for the top and up rights. mine was kinda slapped together by some of my friends who i was letting practice welding at my house. not really the prettiest thing but it gets the job done.

Does any welding work? I was going to flux core it. And did you attach by bolting it to what is already on the the roof?

flux will work fine. thats what i use off a 220. as for attaching you can use gutter mounts, attach to existing rails or bolt to roof. your choice.

How about round thin gauge tubing, I think it would be harder to work with but would come out nice.
