The old head liner is sun rotted. I am working on a templet. Not sure what to use and I want to put a black or dark gray in.. It is the stock roof console for now. Going to mod a gps in it soon.

I don't have pics of the build didn't think about that.. But from now on I will. I just ripped off all the head liner and sanded down the glue. Took a very thin price of aluminum to cover the holes in the plastic (left from the factory mold to save on material, I'm guessing), trimmed the plate to fit with tin snips.. Used 3M spray adhesive to hold down the plate and clamped the plate with C clamps. I used JB welled to feather the plate on to the plastic. Then sanded the JB weld to bled in. Lastly I used rustolum plastic paint for the finish.

I recovered my over head console, when I recovered the headliner. There was enough mat. to cover both. About 5 hours work (on both) and $50.00. Looks like factory original. How ever getting a working compass/temp. module, took me over a year. Finally found one on E-Bay.

I will be doing my headliner in a couple of weeks (using one from a very late model XJ with the speakers built in). My OHC looks pretty shabby and I don't really want to mess with re-covering it. So I wondered, if I peel off the fabric, would it be okay to simply clean & paint what's left? Is that what you have done?

no because of all the holes in the OHC from the factory.. you need to cover them with something. I used the piece of aluminum to cover
