Quote: i called a Mopar parts dealer once to see what the price was. $695.00 for compass/temp module. I almost dropped the phone in shock.
Wow, now that's sticker shock! How much did you end up paying on EBAY?

I got lucky. I got an overhead console from another Jeep same year as mine. It came with the bracket, all the wiring/computer, and even the temperature sensor. I only paid $100 shipped! I got it from a member here, 98 JeepJeep.

$80 With shipping, for a beat up one. But had a working compass/temp module. I pulled it out, and threw it in mine. I already had mine recovered by than. Overhead consoles are worth a small fortune (average price I saw was approx. $120, for those years. 1987 to 1992) They used a slightly different style model in '93 to '97. And I believe they added the gas MPG. calculator in '98. I wanted mine to look original, Because I'm in the process of restoring my XJ. (look it my photo album, You'll see why) I inherited it in '08. It's been in my family for the last 16 years. Right now it's at 67k.

Once you have the headliner redone, it will look spectacular inside. I had mine redone recently (that's when I added the overhead console). It made a huge difference!
