Havent seen one in a while but have old rigs in the past with a cupholder screwed into the dash that is on a pivot so when you are off camber it rolls with the angle and doesnt spill. Easiest solution is to get a 97 or newer with factory cupholders!

I have the same console as xj maniac newb and would buy a set of those if they work with the 5 speed. I've got a 2 door and the holders in the back are useless
I used a metal scrap and a couple self tappers.. (pictured on the left side of the shifter). I added some foam with one sticky side for some "cup support." Then I found a stock double cup holder at the JY for $1. It has grooves that fit right into the console..(pictured on the right)

Thanks for the kind replies from everyone else also. I've made a few changes to the next one with a wider more stable base and not quite so tall so hopefully it will clear the shifter when in reverse.

I also have a mini console.. I made a cup holder that is farther back over the base of the parking brake handle, it holds 2 44oz fountain drinks and my CB.
I like your design.. but again would like to see it installed. It looks like the cup holder part sites over the edge of the seat. This would be fine...unless you have wide hips/legs.

Prerunner, sorry no pics of the new one installed yet. It fits just inside the two seats. I dont know if its just mine or what, but the factory console is just a lil closer to the passenger seat than the driver's seat so it has a lil more clearance on the driver side but does not touch either one. I made it that way so in case you have a 2 door and want to slide the seats forward to get in the back, it wont rub on the side of the seat. I'm 6'0" and 210lbs and I have no problems with it hitting my legs.
A couple of you have mentioned a "mini console". Not sure I've seen one of those. Any pictures?

This looks absolutely amazing. My dad has cupholders in the front of his but they are over the ebrake and greatly limit the brakes funtionality. this looks like it would allow quite a bit of clearence around the ebrake. Secondly, the rear cupholders are useful for holding a small bottle of brake fluid or power steering fluid. Third, that strap idea is pretty neat. I would like to see a cupholder built in around that some day.

JEEPSHEEP, if this works out you could up becoming a vendor here, because LOTS of us xj owners(all 96 back) hate that we have no holders for our cups
