Default Cup Holders

This may not be an edge of your seats, exciting topic, but if you're like me you might stop at the mini mart on the road to get a 20 soft drink or bottle of water and hate how they don't fit the stock cupholders on a pre 97 Cherokee. They just fall out and hit the floor, so I bought 2 of those ashtray cups that they make to fit into generic cupholders and glued them in. They're big enough that a 20 oz bottle will fit right in and stay there. I've done this on 4 different Cherokees and it's a huge upgrade over the stockers...Simply rough up the bottoms of your cupholders and the bottoms of the ashtrays with a Scotchbrite greeny and glue 'em in. I use the 6000 glue from Wal-Mart because it's just killer strong stuff (I used it to glue a patch into a VW Cabriolet top once and it outlasted the car!), but you can put a screw into the bottoms if you'd like. I prefer the ashtrays made by Bell because they're a tad bigger at the top than some of them...Anyway, easy peazy, oh, the Rolling Rocks will fit too, but I don't recommend driving thru Chattanooga with one, trust me...

Great idea, I hate the stock cup holders. But for the record a bottle of Lone Star will fit in the stock holder

I got it on line somewhere, I think from a website that sells OEM Jeep parts, but I can't remember which one...but it shouldn't be hard to find...

I found a link: http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/cgi...older&catid=95

Yeah, but will it stay there when you're bouncing around? Mine will!

My XJ came with one. I hated it. every move a pass makes it will break off, its only held in by two tiny tabs into the console.

I like the mod you did to the holder.

Yeah, it is kind of annoying...Mine usually pops off when I reach over to get a bag or something off the passenger floor. I guess it's a safety thing, but it just pops back on. My wife usually manages to fill them up with her crap, cell phone, trash, whatever...I have 2 passengers and 6 cup holders (2 in the back cuz it's a 2 door)...

You said yours has 2 tabs? It should have 3, 2 on top and one on the bottom that you have to press to lock it in place, then it should only pop off if it's pushed up...Maybe you have a broken 3rd tab?

Pretty simple, buy the ashtrays at Wally-World (I suggest the Bell brand), rough up the bottoms of each ashtray and the bottoms of the factory cup holder and glue 'em in (I use the 6000 glue from the crafts dept at Wally-World). You can put a screw in each one if you'd rather not glue 'em...As for depth, I dunno, about half the size of a Rolling Rock...
