Oh! I have, me and brothers have made a lot of money on the side fixing boats. (Or small yachts.) There's more money in it than doing cars. I get about $2000 plus materials, to do just the bottom, (anti-foul paint, which is made to wear off, with the scum build up of the lake water. From sitting in the water) of a 34 footer. a little more if it's a sailboat. usually takes two long afternoons to do. (sand it smooth than roll it on) It lasts about 2-3 years, than needs to be redone! So we built up quite a clientèle list of repeat customers. Also fix scratches, gouges, cracks, etc. on the sides (free-board area, spray a new coat of high gloss gel coat on, buff out the old coat to blend it in) Usually from the owners bouncing their boats off the docks and piers. Every time I see someone hit the Pier too hard, I ran over and hand them a business card (for boat repair) Without laughing at them. But I'm thinking there is money in the bank. We have never had to advertise, it's all word of mouth. And a good quality job done! A bad paint paint job and word gets spread around faster than 20 good ones.
