Default Could use some pricing help.

Hey, all! Been in and out of these boards very little, but you have been very helpful in the past. I was wondering if I can get a little assistance on pricing a Cherokee. I’m not fishing for buyers. The Jeep is actually sold. My brother-in-law wants it. The only issue is price. I told him I’d love to just sign it over to him, but the sale of the Jeep is part of a bigger plan and we need the cash out of it. Therefore, we need to get a fair market price for it. He understood and said he still wanted it, and then told me he thought it was worth $2500 to $2800.
I told him that, if I put it up right now, I’d ask $3800 in hopes of getting $3500, but would sell it to him for $3000.
Now I am seriously wondering if I am “giving it away” or “ripping him off”. The vast range of asking prices for these things gives me no good benchmark. I see “worse” ones for sale asking more and I see “better” ones for sale asking less. So I thought I would ask here.
It is a red with black int 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic. 4.0 with 160,000 miles. Motor rattles but runs great. Radiator has been replaced along with water pump and thermostat and the brakes and exhaust are less than a few years old. The tires are new and in excellent condition. Every other part on this Jeep is original equipment. My wife has owned it for ten years and it has never seen a single moment of actually 4-wheel playtime. The exterior body is solid, but does have the beginning rust bubbles at the front corners of the roof above the A-pillar. No cracks in any of the glass. The interior has obvious wear, but is all intact and functional. The underbody is solid and very clean (I’m actually very impressed with how it looks underneath).
The engine rattles/knocks and will need replacement sooner or later, but runs reliably. The heater and evap core both need replacement.
I figure an engine and the cores can run $2500. Add that to $3000 and, in my opinion, it is well worth the $5500 he would have into it. And that is jobbing out the labor. He already said he’ll do all the work, and I know he can and will.
I know this is lengthy, but I really want to make a fair deal to him. It is for his kid (my nephew) and I don't want to rip him off. It’s an old Jeep with lots of miles in need of a motor and the cores, but runs great right now and is in use daily. The body is prime for a little TLC to keep it looking great. From what I described, does $3000 sound fair? Like I said, the asking prices for this range all over. I wanted to ask Cherokee people at a Cherokee place, ya know?
Thanks!

3k seems fair, just worried about the head. It may crack, but the bottom end should br find if you've kept up with maintenance.

A head swap should be cheaper than a motor swap.

Then sell it for less if you're worried. If it's for your nephew - who cares about the extra $500. Both parties happy about the sale is worth more. It's family.

That's why you don't sell to family especially if something goes wrong with it then you get the blame

Sounds fair to me. Most likely the engine noise is nothing big. It will probably still last quite a while.
