Could I Tow This?
I am wondering if an XJ with the UHaul tow package, 1994, 4.0L, in good shape could tow this:

Like, I know what the manual says. But for realsies. Thanks!

I don't see why it shouldn't. I would look at the weight of the trailer and compare it to what the Cherokee can pull. You also must take into account that it is going to be loaded with other stuff as well. Are you going to be pulling it around Colorado? If you are you might want to look are possibly re-gearing to a slightly lower gear to help with the mountains and higher altitude. Definitely make sure that you cooling system is up to the challenge as well, look at a heavy duty trans cooler if not already installed. With the right setup our Cherokees can pull quite a bit of weight with no problem.

Sometimes its not the question of can you do something its more "Should I do This". The XJ's weren't really made for trailer towing due to engine size, cooling, brakes, lack of a full frame but some are pushed into service for it anyway.

Hey does anyone have an answer to the question that I asked. I didn't ask what the specs are. I know that. I didn't ask for opinions. I asked whether anyone knows (as in, has actual ****ing experience) towing something like this. If so, please share. If not, please shut the **** up.

he states that his jeep has a uhaul trailer hitch, so likely no trans cooler unless they added one at the time of the uhaul hitch addition.
also, the craigslist ad appears to be in the rockies, so even if he lives in kansas, there's still mountain hills he will have to drive to get it to flat ground.
the xj can/should safely tow up to 5000 lbs, but if it's near that mark, i would make sure the jeep is equipped with trailer brake module and anti-sway bars/distribution hitch.
if it's an older xj with single brake booster diaphram, i would upgrade to a newer dual diaphragm booster to help in the braking department.
as for the 4L, that should be plenty of juice to pull it. if he lives in the mountains, maybe swap out the axles or gears to at least 4.10s.
otherwise, have at er. i've seen smaller vehicles towing same size trailers and possibly even bigger. but i live on flat ground.
no trailer brakes, i wouldn't tow it anywhere in the mountains.
hope he/she at least reads these comments and maybe even hang around, sounds like he/she can learn a lot from us guys here.
plus it sounds like he/she has a little spunk. that could be a good thing here, not afraid to tell some people to stfu. haha
and dan, yes, i think you did a great job answering his question as well.
